Staffing Requirements:
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Background Checks: Pass a criminal background investigation and any other required background checks and verifications.
- Education: Possess at least a GED or high school diploma.
- Automobile Insurance: Have automobile insurance for vehicles owned, leased, or hired and used in the provision of care.
- Driver’s License: Possess a valid driver’s license if vehicle operation is necessary to provide services.
- Certification: Be current in first aid and CPR certification.
- Training: Complete necessary pre/in-service training based on the Person-Centered Plan.
- DDA Training: Complete training designated by DDA, including the new DDA required training.
- Medication Technician Certification: Unlicensed staff paid to administer and/or perform treatments must be certified by the Maryland Board of Nursing as Medication Technicians.
Training Requirements:
All staff must successfully complete the DDA required trainings either before joining Index Care Inc. or within 60 days of hire, as specified by COMAR 10.22.02.11 (C&D). Per COMAR 10:22:02:11, Index Care will develop and implement staff and care provider training and ensure through appropriate documentation that:
Adequate Training:
- All staff and care providers receive adequate training to perform their assigned duties.
- All staff and care providers successfully complete the Administration’s approved training to meet the specific needs of the individuals they serve and to carry out their assigned duties, such as:
- Seizure disorders
- Principles of behavior change
- Management of disruptive behaviors
- Medication administration
- The aging process and the special needs of the elderly
- All staff and care providers receive training in blood-borne pathogens in accordance with OSHA guidelines found in 29 CFR § 1910.1030.
Additional Training: Within 3 months of hire, all staff and care providers shall receive Administration-approved training in:
- Community integration and inclusion
- Individual-directed, outcome-oriented planning for individuals
- General characteristics and needs of individuals served
- First aid and CPR based on the guidelines of the American Red Cross or another nationally recognized organization
- Fundamental rights of individuals with developmental disabilities
- Communicable diseases
- Supporting individuals and families in making choices
- Communication skills
